I made an L shaped intake pipe using a plastic plumbing
90 deg joint and rubber hose and hose clamps. I
picked up some top end, but it seemed like the low
end suffered. Since I'd rather do burnouts then
hit 100 mph, I went back to the Foam filter clamped right
on the carb. I've used K+N and UNI foam filters on
my Savage, and the UNI definitely flowed more air and faster and better
performance, so I use the much cheaper UNI. Going up
15 on a main jet is a LOT!! Everyone thinks bigger
is better. I run a baffle free very short pipe and
no airbox at all. I also disconnected and plugged
all lines to carb other then from the main Bore and
removed the charcoal box. In other words, I'm flowing
a LOT of fresh air, and I only went up 10 in main jet.
In fact, I think it's still too rich and will probably
go down another 2.5. When you're too rich the bike
just bogs. My bike has developed a small oil leak
at the head. When I remove the head to fix it, I
will be porting the intake and exhaust, taking a cut
of around .030 inch off the bottom of the cylinder head,
and hand grinding all plenums for a very smooth exhaust
plenum and slightly rough intake. I may even Hard
face the CAM with my arc welder and have it reground
for a slightly bigger lift and duration. No, I'm
not joking. I'm dead serious. Good luck!
